No one is expecting President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin to be buddies any time soon. And that is working for the liberals in Washington D.C. because there is rampant Russophobia in their ranks.
What’s hard to figure out is how we’ve moved so far from the way it was in 2012. Confronting Russia then was seen as leftover emotions from the old Cold War.
Now, since 2016, the Left wants to do as much as possible short of nuclear war against Putin and his regime. Because of this level of animosity from Biden and his allies, Russia is suspending its participation in New Start. Putin made this declaration in his state of the nation address.
According to The Washington Post, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced in a state of the nation address Tuesday that Moscow is “suspending” its participation in the New START nuclear nonproliferation agreement. This is the last remaining arms control treaty between the United States and Russia.
Putin said Russia will not “withdraw” completely from the treaty, which has been extended to run through Feb. 4, 2026. But Russia will not allow NATO countries to inspect its nuclear arsenal. Putin accused those allied with the United States of helping Ukraine conduct drone strikes on Russian air bases that host strategic bombers that are part of the country’s nuclear forces.
New Start was an Obama initiative from 2011. The treaty placed “verifiable limits” on the number of intercontinental ballistic missiles and nuclear warheads deployed by the countries.
“Our relations have degraded, and that’s completely and utterly the U.S.’s fault,” Putin said.
This treaty was something former President Obama was passionate about as he attempted to rid the world of nuclear weapons. There has to be a part of Obama that sees Joe Biden messing with his legacy.
This takes us back to a popular Obama quote: “Never underestimate Joe’s ability to f**k things up.”
