Duct Tape and Disrespect: How the Secret Service Turned a Hair Salon Into a Crime Scene

You’d think the U.S. Secret Service had better things to do, but apparently not. Instead, they decided to turn a Massachusetts hair salon into their personal pit stop while working a nearby fundraiser for Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign. Because who needs to ask for permission when you can just break in, duct-tape security cameras, and leave the place unlocked for two hours? Oh, and let’s give them a round of applause for their top-notch espionage skills—they were so thorough, they even managed to completely miss some of the cameras. Bravo, Secret Service, bravo!

Alicia Powers, the unlucky owner of Four One Three Salon, discovered that while she was minding her own business, the Secret Service was busy letting random people waltz in and out of her salon to use the bathroom. Of course, they didn’t bother asking her first—because why would they?

The drama started at 8:12 a.m. when a Ring security camera caught an agent in a black suit trying to cover it with duct tape like this was some low-budget spy movie. Later, at 2:44 p.m. and 2:51 p.m., more surveillance footage showed people in emergency medical uniforms, camouflaged law-enforcement gear, and another person in a dark suit breaking into the salon to use the bathroom. And, of course, the emergency alarm went off because they left the door wide open!

Powers told the outlet she felt “violated” by the whole situation. She found the lock on the building, which she co-owns with her dad, had been picked when she returned the next day.

“If they had just asked, I probably would’ve made them coffee and brought donuts to make it a nice afternoon,” Powers said. “But nope, they just helped themselves.”

A Secret Service spokesperson later claimed they did contact Powers but denied entering without permission, even though they didn’t deny messing with her cameras or letting people use her business as a rest stop.

The head of the Secret Service Boston field office reportedly called Powers to apologize, offering to clean up, pay her alarm company bill, and even stop by for coffee with an in-person apology. And just in case you were wondering, Powers had to close her salon that day because the Secret Service asked her to. Why? Probably so they could turn her place into their own personal restroom during Harris’s big fundraiser at the Colonial Theatre. Such considerate visitors!
