A Maryland school district is converting back to a diesel bus fleet after an embarrassingly expensive failed attempt at using electric buses. Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) ditched its fleet of reliable and easy-to-repair diesel buses in exchange for EV buses. This boondoggle has cost the school district nearly $200 million and now they’re switching back to diesel buses anyway. If you want to know what it’s like to live under the failed and wildly expensive policies of liberalism, just look at Montgomery County, MD.
The Office of Inspector General (OIG) in Montgomery County has issued a scathing report on the school district’s mismanagement of taxpayer money. The rip-off started exactly how you’re probably imagining already. The school district decided that it was going to save the weather!
“On February 23, 2021, as part of its commitment to sustainability, MCPS announced it was replacing 326 diesel school buses with electric school buses,” said the OIG report.
Montgomery County sits right on the northern edge of Washington, DC. It’s one of the most affluent liberal counties in America because almost everyone there derives an income by bleeding taxpayers dry. Joe Biden beat Donald Trump by 60 points in Montgomery County in 2020.
It’s no mystery that these people are ALL IN when it comes to the cult of global warming. No price for the taxpayers is too high when they are trying to prevent a theoretical 1-degree increase in temperature at some nebulous point far in the future! They’re going to save the weather!
Therefore, the MCPS issued a contract to an EV bus company for a whopping $168,684,990. That was when “the plan” started to fall apart, according to the OIG.
The bus company has failed to meet the deadlines or produce the number of buses that the district purchased. This has been going on every single year of the contract. The company is so far behind in its manufacturing schedule that the MCPS was forced to purchase 90 new diesel buses to make up for all the routes in the upcoming 2024-2025 school year. That cost the taxpayers an extra $14,749,919.
But the weather!
On top of the delivery schedule, the EV bus company has never fulfilled a service request on any of the 280 electric buses that have broken down since the contract started. If any of the brand-new technological wonder buses break down, MCPS can’t get it fixed because the company is a no-show.
The OIG report states that the MCPS has not issued any fees to the bus company to compensate the taxpayers, which would be the normal course of action when a vendor fails to meet the terms of a contract. With the $2.1 million in fees that the district didn’t collect, that brings the grand total of this boondoggle up to around $185 million. All so they could swap out their diesel buses and then turn around and switch back to diesel buses in the end. Not to worry, though. The company making the EV buses that don’t work and that they never service made a ton of money off the taxpayers.
Here’s an example of how retarded liberals are when it comes to electric school buses:
Clearly a DUI hire too.
