Donald Trump has done a great job of reminding people that he wasn’t the only one shot on July 13th at a rally in Butler, PA. It’s probably easy for some to forget that since Trump was the intended target of the attempted assassination. We’d be living in a very different world today if Joe Biden’s gunman had succeeded. Fortunately for the other victims and their families, Trump supporters are some of the most generous people on earth.

President Trump’s campaign finance director, Meredith O’Rourke, came up with the idea for a GoFundMe fundraiser for the victims and their families. President Trump gave his blessing to the idea, and it took off like gangbusters.

The initial goal was to raise $1 million for the victims’ families. Florida attorney Dan Newlin chipped in that much just by himself. Elon Musk, Kid Rock, Dana White, and Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) also donated. They each contributed $50,000 or more. Almost 70,000 donations later, the fund has raised more than $6.6 million as of July 23rd.

Corey Comperatore, a 50-year-old firefighter, was killed by the gunman while shielding his wife and daughter from the gunfire at the Butler rally. 57-year-old David Dutch and 74-year-old James Copenhaver were seriously wounded in the gunfire. They are both said to be recovering from their injuries.

The fundraiser is great news for the families as they grieve and recover from the shooting.

Meanwhile, Secret Service Director Kim Cheatle resigned on Tuesday over security failures at the rally. Cell phone GPS data shows that the shooter, Thomas Crooks, made a random trip to Washington, DC, in June of 2023 and parked near FBI headquarters. The investigation into the assassination attempt continues.
