Elon Musk promised to make Twitter a “free speech” platform, but that has turned out to be a lie so far. The Media Research Center (MRC) conducted a study of how much censorship took place on Twitter between November 4, 2022, and March 4, 2023, and compared it to the same time period the previous year under the old censorship regime. According to the MRC’s analysis, more conservatives are now being suspended on Twitter under Elon Musk than in the previous year.
Musk once wrote that “failing to adhere to free speech principles fundamentally undermines democracy,” but apparently he’s not interested in practicing what he preaches. This is especially true of the transgender insanity that has gripped the American left, which we’ll get to in a moment.
First, here’s a look at MRC’s findings through their Free Speech America project.
Between November 4, 2021, and March 4, 2022, Twitter censored 226 accounts. During Elon Musk’s first six months as new owner during that same time period this year, Twitter censored 293 people, an increase of 67 more people being censored on the supposedly “free speech platform.” Most of those recent examples happened after Musk fired thousands of dead-weight censorship czars at Twitter.
MRC also found that the severity of the censorship has gotten worse with Musk in charge. In 84% of the censorship cases cited, Twitter locked users out of their accounts and required them to delete an offending tweet to get their accounts back. Under the old regime, only 60% of the examples of censorship locked users out of their accounts.
The researchers also concluded that the old regime targeted the biggest, most politically sensitive users. Examples of people censored under Old Twitter include Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI), Fox News contributor and radio host Dan Bongino, and the American Heart Association. Those three users were among the most vocal in warning others about the dangers of the so-called COVID “vaccines.”
But under Elon Musk’s ownership, the censorship is now largely targeted at what you might think of as “the little guy.” People who don’t have large followings, but who voice disapproved Democrat Party narratives, are being censored. Part of what this tells us, possibly, is that the remaining staff at Twitter is balking against Musk’s free speech ideals. They’re just censoring smaller accounts, which are not large enough to show up on the radar of conservative media outlets.
The MRC made one additional finding which explains what could really be driving this worsening censorship trend. A majority of the censored accounts (62%) were critical of the Democrat Party’s transgender insanity toward children. People forget that whatever else Elon Musk may be, he’s still a member of the globalist elites. Whatever weirdness is going on at the homes of people like Jeffrey Epstein, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Madonna is also going on at Elon Musk’s home on the weekends.
One of Elon Musk’s own children now identifies as transgender, and that does not happen by accident. One Twitter user was locked out of his account and censored for posting this perfectly science-based fact:
“Man and woman are defined by biology. XY sex chromosomes = man. XX sex chromosomes = woman. Transgender is a mental disorder known as gender dysphoria. It should be treated by a psychiatrist, not a surgeon.”
In addition to being 100% factually correct, that tweet wouldn’t even have been controversial just a few years ago. But now, it gets you locked out of your account on Twitter and censored until you correct your naughty behavior. Elon Musk’s time in charge is not very inspiring so far. It’s like the lyrics of that old song, “Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.”
