Every year, Putin addresses the people of Russia with a Christmastime press conference. However, this year, there will be no press conference.
Why?
There are a number of reasons why he may not be giving a press conference.
Dmitry Peskov is the Kremlin spokesperson who has already confirmed that there won’t be any kind of press conference happening before the new year.
Right now, there’s no good news to share.
Russian troops are losing a significant amount of ground in Ukraine. Countess people have died so that Putin could invade the neighboring nation in an effort to retake it.
Meanwhile, there are a lot of questions about Putin’s health. Some reports have said that he’s got cancer overtaking various organs. Others have questioned his mental health.
Putin turned 70 earlier this year. And some have said that he looks sicker every time he makes a TV appearance. He was even swaying in front of the camera when he appeared a week ago.
This will be the first time that Putin has failed to give a year-end press conference in over 10 years.
This would be similar to the kind of questions that would arise if Biden suddenly failed to provide any kind of press conference – or a state of the union address.
People are wondering whether Putin is even sicker than he has let on – and that may very well be the case.
And, this comes at the worst possible time for Russia. The UK has estimated that Ukraine has been able to take back over 50% of the territory that has been captured by Russia since the invasion first started in February.
Is Putin down for the count? We’ll just have to wait and see.
