Cheney Looks to the 2024 Presidential Election After Being Thoroughly Spanked in the Wyoming Congressional Race

Representative Liz Cheney (R-WY) has had a bad year in her political career. After siding with the Democrats on many issues, she has painted a target on her back as being a Republican In Name Only (RINO). On August 17th, she found herself on the losing end of a Republican primary in Wyoming.

The victor, Harriet Hageman, had a massive feather in her cap as Wyoming residents flocked to the polls. With a strong endorsement from President Trump pushing her towards the state’s only Congressional seat, she seemed a nearly guaranteed victory in the overwhelmingly Republican state. Though nobody predicted the massive margin of victory she achieved.

Getting the best of someone in a political race is expected. There is always a winner and a loser in every race, but the 35-point margin Hageman won by is nearly unprecedented. While the mainstream media is painting this as the GOP shifting priorities and putting Trump above the principles of the party, they could not be more incorrect. This is the GOP digging in their heels and refusing to be pushed around.

After seeing the mess Dick Cheney (Liz’s father) made in Iraq while serving as G.W. Bush’s Vice President, and the corruption with Halliburton, people were gun-shy to trust another member of the family. Liz won them over by promising she was different, and that she had Wyoming’s best interests at heart. After just one term, they have had enough of her RINO politics and refusal to be the voice for Wyoming.

Now, she is hinting at adjusting her sights on a much larger target – the former President of the United States. Pointing fingers at Trump to proclaim him as “a very grave threat and risk to our republic,” she went on to claim that defeating his re-election goals is something that will require “a broad and united front of Republicans, Democrats, and independents — and that’s what I intend to be part of.” While she refused to explicitly state that running for President was next, she did admit it’s “something that I’m thinking about.”

Given her involvement in not only turning on Trump but the entire party as a member of the Jan. 6th committee, she has painted herself into a corner and doesn’t exactly know how to get out of it. The Democrats won’t trust her simply due to her last name and her previous actions, and she has successfully burned the bridge on the right side as her election results have shown.

This lack of a political home makes her into a potential for the independents, but neither side’s diehard voters would join her. Being stuck in this kind of situation is one of the rare situations in life where being alone doesn’t make you more dangerous; it only makes you far weaker and less likely to win. Much like Ross Perot, if she were to try and run for president, it would only serve to take away swing votes from truly viable candidates.

President Trump’s team took the news of Hageman’s victory as seriously and positively as if it was their own election, with Trump writing his statement that was published on his social media platform. “Liz Cheney should be ashamed of herself, the way she acted, and her spiteful, sanctimonious words and actions towards others. Now she can finally disappear into the depths of political oblivion where, I am sure, she will be much happier than she is right now. Thank you WYOMING!”

Given the margin of loss, her lack of potential to even get through the presidential primaries, and the lack of serious financial backers for a campaign, Cheney will likely fade back into obscurity with only serious campaigners knowing her name or interacting with her. While she entered into politics with some good ideas, she proved that she had her daddy’s lack of morals and a Democrat’s integrity. It’s a real shame, too.
