The unprecedented speed with which President Biden flip-flops on issues is simply astonishing. With the snap of the fingers or a buzz from the shock collar under his dress shirt, he quickly goes from supportive to being totally against it. Maybe this explains why he is so atrocious at defending his position on anything; he is being forced to have both sides in mind just in case one suddenly stops being ok with the leftist elite.
Pushing this quick change is the U.S. State Department. For years, they hadn’t supported Taiwan’s independence, then in a May 5th, 2022 update, that part was left out. Now. in another update dated May 28th. the line has been slipped back in. They. in turn. claim that they have only updated it again to reflect Secretary of State Antony Blinken and his public outline regarding the U.S. concerning China.
They used his specific language in it now as well. “We oppose any unilateral changes to the status quo from either side; we do not support Taiwan independence; and we expect cross-strait differences to be resolved by peaceful means.” He also went on to claim that the policy “has been consistent across decades and administrations” and has never wavered from its commitment to the “One China” policy.
This directly flies in the face of statements President Biden gave on May 23rd, just days before Blinken gave his speech.
When asked about supporting Taiwan with military action Biden said “Yes, that’s the commitment we made.” After a brief pause, he added, “We agree with a ‘One China’ policy, we’ve signed onto it, and all the intended agreements are made from there. But the idea that [Taiwan] can be taken by force … it’s just not appropriate. It will dislocate the entire region and be another action similar to what happened in Ukraine. And so, it’s a burden that is even stronger.”
No matter how they want to spin it, policies evolve, and they change over time. Especially with different sitting presidents. The idea of remaining the same in foreign relations as the situation on the ground changes is ridiculous. The American people are well aware of this and are ready to see changes coming out about the policy with Taiwan, just the same way we saw things change with the policy in Afghanistan.
As much as the State Department wants to convince President Biden that it’s always been that way, we would be remiss to allow Taiwan to be taken back over by mainland China. The whole One China concept is antiquated, and something that is not only bad for the U.S., but it’s bad for the global economy. Taiwan is too important to transportation, as well as strategically to just allow China to come in and take it over.
Taiwan has been pushing for its complete independence for years. We have been supplying them with weapons to ensure their safety from potential attacks by mainland China or anyone else who might decide to get sporty. For President Biden to allow this flipflop back against their independence is just disrespectful.
People in Taiwan are happy living their life as they have now for years. Meanwhile, we have seen the atrocities carried out by the Chinese government and military on their people in Hong Kong while trying to wrangle them back in under mainland China’s control.
This fate and much worse would certainly await the people of Taiwan, and it would only serve to give China more power within the global economy. At this point, do we really want to see them any stronger?
